Microsoft Excel is an electronic spreadsheet program (a software program for numerical and budget computing) that, like Microsoft Word, has a dominant share of the market. It was initially a competitor to the dominant Lotus 1-2-3, but in the end it sold more and faster than it, so it became the de facto standard. It is suitable for Windows and Macintosh platforms.
